How To’s on Perfume

Taking a bath or a shower will only make you feel clean but spraying a bit of perfume on is what really makes you smell so good. Now that you’ve just recently purchased a discount perfume, it wouldn’t hurt to know more about perfumes as well as how to properly store and apply it.

There are different fragrance levels: perfume as the most concentrated, eau de parfum is lighter and the cologne is the lightest. You might come across a few fragrant essential oils and these are classified as a natural fragrance option that’s lighter than cologne. Your discount perfume features a lot of notes (top, middle and base) and this is the reason why its scent varies all throughout the day once you’ve sprayed it on.

When it comes to discount perfume storage, make sure to keep your fragrance bottles away from heat and direct sunlight since these could damage the scent. If you are living in a warm location, you might want to store your perfume bottles inside the refrigerator instead. Your cool perfume will give you that refreshing tingle when you spritz it on your skin.

Avoid spraying your clothes with perfume since it could get stained. Additionally, apply your perfume prior to putting on any piece of jewelry to prevent your accessories from getting discoloured or ruined.

No matter how you love the scent of your discount perfume, restrain yourself from spraying too much. Spray the scent a few times on your skin like behind the ears or the sides of your throat and even on your hair for subtle yet maximum effect.

Buying the Right Perfume

How to choose the proper perfume for you.

Archaeologists believe that perfumes have been in used since the time of the Ancient Egyptians and Mesopotamians, some 4,000 years ago. In spite of this extremely long period of experience with fragrances, buying the right perfume can still be a baffling exercise. Perfumeries typically carry a range of bottles in different shapes, sizes, and colors containing perfumes which are also in different colors and of course different fragrances. Still, there are a few guides the uninitiated can follow when trying to buy the right perfume.

The only way to test the scent of a perfume is to spray it. There are, however, two ways to do this –you can either spray it on a piece of blotter or on your skin.

Testing on a blotter is recommended if you are testing several samples. You can write the name of the scent on the blotter so you can check them again later to see how long the smell lasts. The drawback to this, though, is that perfume on a blotter may smell differently from the same perfume on your skin. This is because human beings have their own skin chemistry that reacts to identical stimuli differently.

This, however, does not necessarily mean testing on the skin is always better. Although this method tells you precisely how the perfume will smell on your skin, this may apply only to the first bottle you try out. The smell of the subsequent bottles tested inevitably mixes with that of the first so you may never get the true scent of the perfume.

A combination of the two may be the best way to do your testing. Spray the scents you are interested in on separate blotters and narrow down your choice to a minimum, then test these on your skin.

The first aroma that wafts from your skin, called the top or head notes, typically last for a very short period. This is followed by the middle notes, also called heart, which lasts a little longer than the top notes. After about 30 minutes, the base notes emerge and it is this deep and rich odor that will stay with you for hours. Thus, you will have to wait for the base notes before deciding that you like the scent.

If it is your first time to buy a particular scent, go for the smallest bottle available. This is because some perfumes can cause allergies which may only come out after you have been using it for a number of days. Often the smallest size is 50 ml although some stores offer small vials that are intended for trials.

Go ahead, visit your favorite perfumery to test their wares but remember to try them on blotters and on your skin, and don't forget to wait for the base notes.
